One eternal fabric in hundreds of voices today
Can you make your own voice heard with the oldest tissue on earth? Is it possible to speak with traditional linen from Dutch soil in a language of today? And what happens when you invite hundreds of friends to answer those questions with a free interpretation, in which they visualize their personal rituals, love for handicrafts and their own stories?
In order to research this in a contemporary form - local, traditional and small-scale - designer Nannet van der Kleijn has invited more than 500 friends and acquaintances with different backgrounds and gifts to give substance to this. In a handwritten letter she sent this spring to fashion makers, artists and designers, but also to an accountant and a pilot, she asked to bring an identical piece of A4 Twente linen to life in their own "language".
The surprisingly rich imagination that resulted, "a celebration of art - reflection in time", can be seen from Thursday in a continuous 4-day exhibition at Bradwolff in Amsterdam. Expect a surprising anthology of creativity in textiles, fashion, poetry and free art. Nannet is present in the room every day and likes to see you there.
